The LORD GOD told Abraham, “…I WILL BLESS THEE…BECAUSE THOU HAST OBEYED MY VOICE.” (Genesis 22:18) Therefore, “GET READY to L-O-O-S-E YOUR FAITH & FLY!”
BRING IT DOWN ON HOME:
Did the LORD GOD test Abraham? Lets look at Genesis 22:1-2, “GOD DID TEMPT ABRAHAM and said unto him, Take now thy son, thine only son ISAAC, whom thou LOVEST, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and OFFER him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.” We all know the story that Abraham was 100 years old at Isaac’s birth and Sarah was about 90 years old. The Bible tells us that Abraham fathered other children (a son with Sarah’s handmaid, Hagar, and six sons with Keturah), but GOD’S COVENANT WAS EXTENDED TO ISAAC AND JACOB.
WHY DID GOD TEMPT ABRAHAM? GOD wanted to see if Abraham really loved HIM more than he did little Isaac (his promised son). So, we see this old, old man asked to give up something he has waited for all of his life! When GOD asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, I’m sure Abraham was devastated but he was obedient. Although Isaac was a young lad, he wasn’t stupid as he said, “My father…behold the fire and the wood but WHERE IS THE LAMB for a burnt offering?” [Food for thought: Does this story remind you of another Biblical story about our Savior’s sacrifice and His Father‘s love for us?] And Abraham answered, “MY SON, GOD WILL PROVIDE HIMSELF A LAMB…”
Without question (in our Society of 2012), Abraham would be arrested for attempted murder, child abuse, and endangerment! Law officers would put good old Abe in chains and up under the jail house! Contrary to our Society, this historical event happened in the Old Testament (before the Mosaic Law) and most men did, as they believed. Thus, Abraham’s behavior is justified as proven by Scripture, “And the Angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham…LAY NOT THINE HAND UPON THE LAD neither do thou any thing unto him: FOR NOW I KNOW THAT THOU FEAREST GOD, seeing thou hast not with held thy son, thine only son from me.” (Genesis 22:11-12)
WHY DO WE TEMPT THE LORD? Right now, you are asking the LORD for someone or something (you name it). Vice versa, THE LORD IS TESTING YOU! Be sure to pass these next few tests! GET READY TO LOOSE YOUR FAITH & FLY! The sky is the limit! Just remember, the LORD will test you to see if your love for the GIFT is greater than your love for the GIVER! Do you follow me? BEWARE: GOD is a JEALOUS GOD, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me…” Put nothing and nobody before the Lord!
Have a Blessed Day!
