The Bible says, “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided ME a king among his sons. And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the Lord said, Take an heifer with thee and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto Me, him whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.” (I Samuel 16:1-5) Like Samuel, we all have questions and comments for the LORD GOD, “How am I going to do this or that?” We have very narrow perspectives on life; and collectively, the wisdom of this World ain’t nothing compared to THE WISDOM OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD!
BRING IT DOWN ON HOME:
I want you to know that a voice woke me up early, early, early in the morning saying, “ACCEPT GOD’S DECISIONS!” Now, write a Blog about it! Many of us are going through difficult times in our lives. If you are having problems, please read this Blog!
Now lets go to the WORD of GOD! As you know, God told Samuel to anoint a king for the Nation of Israel because they did not want God as their Supreme Ruler and they wanted to be like other nations with a man ruling over them. What a shame as their newly sworn in king failed the people! The WORD says, “Do not put your trust in man for he will surely fail you…” and that is exactly what king Saul (the man) did. He openly disobeyed THE ALMIGHTY GOD and he disobeyed the Man of God, Prophet Samuel. Thus, GOD rejected Saul as king!
As Christians, “How does this story relate to our lives?” I’m glad you asked.
(1) We are afraid to make changes and to let go of the people who have been rejected by the Lord GOD. Like Prophet Samuel, we are afraid of what others may think…or say about us…or do to us…and other circumstance which may (or may not) take place. You see, Prophet Samuel freaked out telling GOD, “…Saul may kill me…” On the contrary, the prophet should have been more afraid of what GOD would do unto him! In paraphrasing, the LORD GOD said, ” I have rejected Saul so forget about him and go to Jesse’s house in Bethlehem. and do as I command.”
(2) Wherever we go and whatever we do, we must take the Anointing with us. Like Prophet Samuel (who filled his horn with oil), we must fill our spiritual vessels with the HOLY GHOST! You can’t drive a car without a license, oil, gas, and a working vehicle! Likewise, you cannot drive a spiritual vehicle without the anointing oil and you cannot drive without being licensed by the Holy Spirit! As a testimonial to so many wonderful Saints (now with the LORD), I’ve heard them sing in unison, “Without GOD, I can do nothing…Without GOD, I will fail….Without GOD, I would be nothing – Like a ship without a sail…” And so, the man of God filled his drinking vessel with oil, “Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brethren: and the SPIRIT of the LORD came upon David from that day forward….So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah!” (I Samuel 16:13) [Note: Ramah was one of the sanctuary cities for criminals and it was also one of the cities on Prophet Samuel’s circuit list. We can safely say that Prophet Samuel was nobody’s fool and I would have done the same thing to escape king Saul’s madness.]
(3) The LORD GOD will make a way out of no way! In fact, GOD laid out a plan of action for Prophet Samuel and the only thing Samuel did was to obey: (a) ACTION: Take a heifer with you and tell the folks, “I’ve come to sacrifice.” Samuel did not have to tell a lie about his visit to Bethlehem, but he was still afraid of king Saul. (b) ACTION: Now, “sanctify Jesse and his sons” and include them in the service. Again, Prophet Samuel obeyed and he called Jesse and interviewed each of his sons. Finally, Jesse called David and the Prophet anointed the chosen one. (c) ACTION: The Man of God told the Elders to sanctify themselves. When Prophet Samuel arrived, the Elders were trembling with fear saying, “Comest thou peaceably?” In answer, the Prophet admitted to a peaceful visit but he told them to set themselves apart for Holy uses. You see, the Lord GOD will put your enemies and/or observers in awe of you!
[Note: May I give sound advice to those who meddle with GOD’S people? It’s best for you and all the skeptics to leave the people of GOD alone!] And to the People of GOD – walk in your calling and hold your head up high! Don’t fear men but fear the LORD GOD who has the power over life, death, hell, and the grave!
Have a Blessed Day!
