The Bible says, “…Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine…And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
And the king said, And where is thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, Today shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father…And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in they sight, my lord, O king.” (II Samuel 16:2-4) The dEVIL will make you LIE to get what you want! We are still talking about “Folks Caught Up in their own Carnal Minds” or rather shall I say “Folks Caught Up in their own MESS!”
BRING IT DOWN ON HOME:
Anything you want to know about mankind can be found in the WORD OF GOD! You only have to search the Bible as there are no new Cains or Nimrods! As you know, Ziba was a servant of Mephibosheth (a young son of Jonathan – the son of king Saul) and David made a blood-brother’s pack with Jonathan (by the way, they were good friends). Unfortunately, Mephibosheth was injured by his nurse who fled with the child as they ran from danger! These injuries caused Mephibosheth to be crippled in both feet (read II Samuel 4:4).
Here is Ziba’s plot!
(1) Ziba was out to make himself look good.
Notice: Ziba said, “… I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in they sight, my lord, O king.” As the overseer of Mephibosheth’s household, Ziba and his sons loaded the asses with tons of bread, raisins, summer fruits and wine to give king David and his men. This was a good act but Ziba mispresented the facts! He pretended to be concerned about the king’s welfare; instead, he was making himself look good and seeking asylm. But, king David was not looking to wipe out the House of Saul!
(2) Ziba told a big fat lie on Mephibosheth.
Ziba knew that Mephibosheth was of the House of Saul because he was Jonathan’s son. He also knew that Mephibosheth was a grown cripple man who could not look after himself and Mephibosheth placed tons of confidence in Ziba! When king David asked about Ziba’s master, Ziba replied, “Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, Today shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father…” Frankly, this was not the case for Mephibosheth!
(3) Mephibosheth was totally innocent!
During the siege of Jerusalem, Mephibosheth (a cripple) stayed in his house and never left Jerusalem. In protest of the Absalom’s siege against his own father (king David), Mephibosheth “had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day the king came again in peace.” (II Samuel 19:24)
In fact, king David asked Mephibosheth, “Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?” And Mephibosheth answered, “My lord, O king, my servant [Ziba] deceived me for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king because thy servant is lame.
And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes. For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy seervant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king? And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land. And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.” (II Samuel 19:24-30) You see, Mephibosheth was willing to give up everything to Ziba and to rejoice over king David’s safety!
(4) Things did not work out as Ziba planned!
Let’s go back to II Samuel 16:4, king David said to Ziba, “Thine are all the pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king…” What? Ziba is a yankee-doodle-dandy!
Now, let’s zoom back to II Samuel 9:1-13! King David gave mercy to Saul’s house and he paid respect to the late Jonathan’s (his best friend) son, Mephibosheth,
“And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually….Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread always at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. Then said Ziba utno the king, According to all that my lord the king hath cammanded his servant, so shall thy servant do…”
Thus, Ziba was still a servant (and if humanly possible were he living today, he would still be a servant to Mephibosheth). Furthermore, Ziba and his sons had to wait on Mephibosheth and they did not get the right to sit at the king’s table but Mephibosheth was given the honor!
Frankly, it does not pay to mess with the LORD’S annointed and HIS chosen people! The WORD says, “God will make your enemies your footstool….”
Have a Blessed Day!
