The Bible says, “When Simon Peter saw it […nevertheless at THY word I will let down the net…and when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net brake…] he fell down at JESUS’ knees saying, Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O LORD.” (Luke 5:5b-8) “PETER SAID, DEPART FROM ME FOR I AM A SINFUL MAN, O LORD!”
BRING IT DOWN ON HOME:
If Peter was cussing like a sailor, drinking, smoking, and away from home on extended fishing trips, what else was Peter doing out there? In other words, Peter was doing his thang! While Peter was out all day and all night fishing, the little wife was home washing, cleaning, cooking, beating the dust from the carpets, chit-chatting with her neighbors, looking after the kids, and taking care of her sick Mother.
Don’t forget, JESUS visited Peter’s home and found Peter’s Mother-in-Law sick in bed with a very high fever – probably the Hong Kong flu. As a compassionate Savior, JESUS just touched the woman’s hand and immediately she was healed. In fact, she got up and waited on the LORD! (read: Matthew 8:14-15; Luke 4:38-41; Mark 1:29-31)
Not one time do we find Peter doing domestic chores because he was out earning a living. When Peter returned home, he probably laid around. Like many wives, Peter’s wife was stuck at home with all the chores as we never read that she accompanied Peter on his fishing trips (but his sons did).
Generally, the wife is type cast in a permanent role. When the good husband arrives home, the wife waits on him hand and foot. Of course, this is after the little woman has worked her hands to the skin and bone.
However, we read that Peter did this and Peter did that, etc. On the contrary, Peter’s wife is given little significance as we are not given her name and/or the name of her Mother! Yet, Peter’s wife is mentioned in the Bible as Peter’s wife. I sure hope/pray that Peter’s wife and Peter’s Mother-in-Law made it to Heaven.
Sometimes, praise and glory is withheld from many wives because husbands take their wives for granted until she gets sick and the husband takes over the wife’s role. That’s about the time, the husband learns to speak professional Chinese after juggling the cooking, washing, cleaning, making up the beds, and managing the kids. The poor little wife is the last one to rest her head in bed and the first one up in the morning! Amen!
Back to the lesson. The LORD is calling all sinners to repentance. Peter said, “…depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord…” Truly, Peter was sincerely and sinfully correct. The Bible doesn’t go into detail about Peter’s sinful life but the flies on the wall knew everything!
Like the unsaved Peter, you may be thinking, “I’m a very, very sinful person. I’ve done things and gone places which are so shameful that I cannot tell others. I’m afraid that people will judge me and dislike me!”
Honey, let me tell you that all SIN IS SIN! Here is a side note for you. There is only one unforgiveable sin and that is blasphemy against the HOLY GHOST! Jesus told the Pharisees (who condemned His powers to cast out demons, devils, and to heal all manner of sicknesses/diseases as one operating through the powers of Beelzebub/Satan),
“Wherefore I say unto you all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” (Matthew 12:31-32)
So, don’t make the mistake denying the Executive Power of the Holy Ghost for miracles and wonders by giving the credit to the dEVIL! Come to the LORD, all ye that are heavy laden and full of sinful memories which haunt you day and night. The dEVIL will never leave you alone as one minute you may feel great and the next minute the enemy whispers in your ears about your errors and faults.
Shake a leg and tell that dEVIL, “I rebuke you in the name of JESUS CHRIST!” Just repent and you will never have to say, “DEPART FROM ME FOR I AM A SINFUL MAN, O LORD!” Instead, you will start rejoicing and praising the Lord in the victory dance!
Have a Blessed Day!
